I wrote my last blog in September 2021.

So it’s a wrap (see cover shot of all our names peeled off the wall).

Our final show Morph, Aug 27 2022 – Oct 8 2022, at NorthArt in Auckland.

We arrived, set-up, and opened. Small turn out for Auckland.

I showed my face.

This seemed an appropriate summary of the last two and a half years of a covid-soaked mentorship.

The myriad of collectables that I used to drag home have disappeared from the streets during the pandemic. Making a face and instagram was my way of recording these finds/rubbish/potential work. This is no longer. My whole relationship with the ‘found’ is less friendly. I ‘found’ myself looking at what I have and wanting to use that instead. My wonderful mentor had to repeat himself all the time but did manage to get me to stick with one material, something I found hugely challenging, always wanting to move on to the next colourful piece.

It was a ride. I love that we all managed to get together pre Covid with Iris Eichenberg for the first masterclass. I was so terrified and suffer terribly from the ‘I am shit’ artist’s mindset. I’m still shit, but I have been on a roller-coaster with a group of enormously creative and talented jewellers. We have been zooming all over the world, managing lockdowns and time differences.

Thank you Attai Chen for your patient mentoring. Thank you Peter and Hilda for all you do and the other silent helpers. Thank you Iris Eichenberg, Estela Saez and Renee Bevan for your wonderful masterclasses. And thanks to all my new jewellery peeps. Love your work.
