The newly-formed HANDSHAKE 5 group came together for JEWELcamp at Te Auaha (Wellington) with the briefing of the two unique exhibition projects that occurs later this year. Roseanne Bartley workshopped in her masterclass creative ways of approaching the making practice. Her feedback continues within the first quarter of 2019. Different coaches with specialised skills get involved at different times to enrich each artist’s creative and technical pathway. As a result, each month the artists will update us about their creative developments via a blog post. Watch this space…..

Peter Deckers Maker, Curator, Editor, Educator, Founder of the HandShake Project MTS (Vakschool Schoonhoven), MFA (Hons) (Elam), DipTeach Peter studied art and jewellery making in both the Netherlands and New Zealand. He is active in his own art practice, making collections for national and international exhibitions, as well as in the wider jewellery art community instigating opportunities. His philosophy in arts education is that each individual (student) is unique, therefore has the potential for artistic expression. His passion for jewellery and the arts transfigures lessons into experiences. Peter is both a contemporary artist and a craftsperson. Ideas that make distinctive connections with jewellery are the inspiration for his practice, which is highlighted through a series of engaging artworks. He exhibits with galleries throughout New Zealand and the world. His work, philosophy and ideas have been discussed in several publications. Next to being a tutor and maker, Peter has been an instigator as jewellery curator, writer, and artistic director of the HANDSHAKE PROJECT, a 2-year exhibition and mentor project for emerging jewellery artists, funded by Creative New Zealand.
