H8 mentees & mentors:
The mentorship programme has been the flagship of the HANDSHAKE project. The HS mentorship system with top international mentor artists has supported many NZ emerging artists and provided professional ‘tools’ through their generous feedback support. This guidance is crucial for accelerated learning as it exposes mentees to years of experience, knowledge, and resolution processes that are not typically provided by the traditional art education system in New Zealand. Even ex-HS mentees are now being asked to become mentors for the new generation. Each HS8 artist has their selected mentor, and they start working with them in 2024.
The HS8 mentor programme aims to assist, encourage, challenge, and provide constructive criticism toward the mentee’s personal and artistic growth.
HS8 artists/mentees will create a body of work with their mentor that will be showcased at Pah Homestead, Auckland (end 2024). The mentor sessions are scheduled throughout 2024 to support the various stages of their development leading up to their final exhibition.

Introducing the ‘Fat Chat,’
I often listen to audio books during the long days of making in my studio. I’ve also been working to lift my parenting game (which often looks like an attempt at creating the kiwi version of ‘Bad mom’s.’) It was in this vein that I listened to, ‘How to Raise Girls Who...
The Proof (of Concept) is in the pudding
After the Proof of Concept exhibition was installed, as per usual, I wished for more time before the bump in. In a perfect world this extra time would allow for more making (not procrastinating), but also more time and space to think about the artwork installation. I...
my flexible quasi-process
A few years ago I felt the necessity and had the privilege of time to study and to develop a framework for my practice. With many thanks, especially to Johanna Zellmer, my MFA supervisor, the Dunedin Art School community and my family, clarity around my practice...
A handful of pebbles
The work I made for our mid point exhibition, Proof of Concept, was predominantly driven by material exploration. Since I started making jewellery I’ve been interested in working with stone. I love the materiality of it and it’s connection to the natural world. I love...
