Artist statement

 In my practice, I navigate the challenges of fine goldsmithing and larger-scale metalsmithing techniques, often encountering methods or tools that don’t translate perfectly. The joy of my work lies in discovering solutions, which fosters serendipitous relationships between the various elements of my creations.

 

Bio

Rose Pickernell is currently based in rural Rotorua. She completed her degree in Contemporary Jewellery at Otago Polytechnic in 2021, after spending three years studying Fine Arts at Massey University (2019-2020). This shift was driven by her desire for hands-on learning and a more profound technical education, alongside the intellectual aspects. Coming from a lineage of craftspeople, Rose has a deep-rooted passion for making.
