Artist statement
I have looked at our seas. By 2050 it is predicted they will contain more plastic than fish.
Twenty seven years ago I used a sheet of recycled plastic bottles in my kitchen. This and the handles from a toy wardrobe have been repurposed as the jewellery: ’Two piece’ bangle/pendant.
Bio
Velvet Hart is a maker of objects. She came to Jewellery with a desire to adapt the things she found and produce something surprising that could embody her thinking.
Jewellery has always been recycled and reassembled and this is at the core of Velvet’s making. It touches on things deep within the human psyche – to adapt and repurpose objects, to save things from oblivion/landfill and perhaps turn this detritus of our existence into something beautiful and unique. Velvet Hart creates an alchemy of sorts. Brand new objects that reflect our time and the hand that made them.
