Looking back through my diary to see what I’ve been doing…here goes…now May.

I had nothing to show Attai this month. The debilitating shoulder is ongoing. Deeply frustrating and a much more social month as a consequence, catching up with fellow HS6’s and family.

Flew to Wellington. Weird being on a plane in a mask and taking it off for my cuppa.

We went to see ‘Carving Culture’ show at Avid of four women carvers. Grace Yu Piper, Neke Moa, Renée Pearson and Hannah Upritchard. Then Grace and I drove out to Jane Dodd’s talk at the Dowse, a retrospective of her work, and launch of her book. It was packed.

We had our first Masterclass with Estela Saez from Catalonia, without knowing at all what to expect. Peter said this is about us finding new ways to explain our concept/story.

Estela said she loves her practice (something that I want to be able to say) because she has the room to do whatever she wants because in 100 years time it will still be jewellery.

She asked us how old we are, why jewellery and what are our expectations?

We watched a Shirin Neshat short film that I have seen before and another one with a woman smashing car windows with a orange aloe. Then we had to walk away from the computer and make a 30 sec video in 5 mins, not talk about our jewellery, not show our jewellery. It was really challenging walking into the studio with my phone, and having to come up with a solution in such a short time. But we all did it, uploaded our quick video and then we all watched. Such fun!
