Renee Bevan

 

 

Bevan’s practice engages with the personal and cultural meanings that are invested in objects through their many and varied roles in human relationships.

Bachelor of Visual Arts from The University of Auckland, 2002.

Lives and works in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.

Exhibitions include Talente 2005, Schmuck 2008, Munich, Ontkend! (Jewellery Unleashed), The Dudok Exhibit, 2011, Arnhem, Wunderruma, 2014-2015, Galerie Handwerk, Munich, The Dowse, Wellington, Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland and The Language of Things, 2018, The Dowse, Wellington.

In 2017 Bevan was the inaugural recipient of The Blumhardt Residency.

Bevan’s artist lecture The imbued object, presented in 2018 at The Language of Things Symposium, was also part of the 2018 Ockham Residential Lecture series, Objectspace, Auckland and again delivered in 2021 to Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan through invitation from Iris Eichenberg as part of their International Visiting Artist series.

More recently Bevan’s work was included in the exhibition Wiggling Together, Falling Apart, a group exhibition curated by Lucy Meyle and Victoria Waynne-Jones at Michael Lett, Auckland, 2022 and in the publication Flora, edited by Lehnebach, Regnault, Rice, Te Awa and Yates and published by Te Papa Press 2023.

Bevan has worked in arts education for 20 years.

From 2012-2016 Bevan was contracted by Creative New Zealand as Talente Scout/Mentor and Schmuck advisor.

Bevan’s work is in both public and private collections, these include The Dowse Art Museum, Te Papa Tongarewa and Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira.
