Exhausting and at times an emotional roller-coaster, but what an amazing experience the Masterclass with Iris Eichenberg was. I am so grateful and happy to be part of this project and wonderful bunch of Handshakers! Fellow artists becoming friends to learn from, share and grow with, and be inspired by.
The many thought provoking discussions on contemporary jewellery we had, and the truthful, but warm and generous questioning and feedback from Iris about our work, made it clear to me that so much about my own practice is as yet subconscious, unclear, undefined and unanswered.
I think that a large part of this Handshake journey will be to become more aware and clear about who I am, what I stand for and what my intentions are.
At the same time, my default strategies and processes became very obvious during a fun exercise we did on interfering with other people’s work. The pieces were laid out on a long table. We could change them by adding, taking away, changing materials… etc.
As I was playing around with the work on the tables, it hit me in the face: “OMG… this is how I operate….”
Of course, I am aware of my processes, but it was so good to be confronted in this fun way with my default strategies; they may need interrupting at times so I don’t end up doing the same thing all the time!
I had my first skype meeting with Manuel Vilhena. I am so excited and feel so lucky to have him as my mentor!

“Interfered works”

This is one of my paper experiments.
Iris’s comment: Your unconscious mark making process is interrupted and has become conscious.
Iris’s question: What is it that interrupts me and how can I eliminate it, so it remains unconscious?
