Mandy Flood
Artist statement
The common material paired with the decay of urban surfaces is the provocation for my making. The surfaces of my work questions perceptions of beauty and value in society. I create work that shows signs of time and wear, the element of change through wearing a piece is something to be embraced and not seen as broken.
Bio
Mandy Flood, moved from England to NZ in 1998. She completed a BA in Contemporary Craft in 2012; she was awarded the Graduate Prize from Fingers Gallery, Auckland and had her Graduate show in 2013. She has been part of Handshake 4 where she was mentored by Volker Atrops and showed work at ‘Boutique’ during Schmuck 2019. She curated a group show, ‘The Jewellers Game’ 2019, which invited the audience to guess what image inspired the maker to produce what work. She relishes opportunities for contemporary jewellery to interact with a wider audience. Her work is at Fingers Gallery; The National and in private collections.
