HandShake 7, 2022
Marie-José van den Hout, the visionary owner, coordinator, and curator of Galerie MARZEE, Nijmegen, NL selected 12 artists from former HANDSHAKE projects for the HANDSHAKE 7 one-year programme (see who they are).
HS7 programme was designed to provide an inspirational exploration into the processes of art-making, leading to the development of a body of work for a professional exhibition at Marzee that opened on December 4, 2022.
Throughout 2022, the participants had various art development opportunities, including in the first quarter masterclasses online with Estella Saez Vilanova and feedback sessions from established artists Katharina Dettar, Annelies Planteijdt, and Iris Bodemer. At the end of 2022, coach Sarah McClintock guided the participants in how their artworks were stacked up from the audience’s perspective.
The HS7 package aimed to foster creative development and excitement with professional support and feedback, resulting in a high-profile exhibition at Marzee.

A Stitch in Time 2022
Spending time with a material that is bound for landfill might seem futile, or the conscious act of repair. Producing something that sits lightly on the body but holds a silent heavy narrative. A small act of personal activism in uncertain times. This work developed...
Reflecting on the Estela Saez workshop
I love loose organic forms. I like detailed moments. I like to cut and fold. Attending Estela’s workshop was such a gift and a wild journey. I with both feet did the assignments with full commitment and reckless abandon. The outcomes were not all good, but they were...
Welcome to HandShake 7 (HS7), 2022
HS7 is a selection of artists from former HANDSHAKE projects. The HS7 programme aims to provoke creative development and endeavour.
The group started with a masterclass series with Estela Saez Vilanova from Barcelona. Her workshop assignment sessions stretched till mid June.
The motivation of her masterclass is to search for inspiration, understand it, and when needed, is applied as a gathered experience to the working process of the artist. The HS7 artists revisited their usual making processes through a well-balanced comprehension of the conscious & unconscious phenomena, in an attempt to somehow merge the two.
Next to the artistic development a series of feedback coach sessions covered professional responses from a selection of international expert artists. The overall overseer is curator and writer Sarah McClintock. Sarah coached the HS7 group in the process of developing an exhibition ready body of work for the exhibition at Gallery Marzee in the Netherlands, curated and coordinated by owner Marie-José van Hout.
