I wish to show with the following photographs how salient colour is when making work. As I said in my previous blog, as a result of answers to questions about colour with regard to anxiety, I experimented with dyes, on bone, silks and wood.

Recently I have been playing with various metals and working them into knots with a ring format, I considered them drawings, serendipitously I came across Doris Betz who’s work is fundamentally concerned with the line.”My work is above all about the line: how it spreads and the possibilities of its arrangement. The line or the wire describes through its movement, a space. There are overlaps, knots and different layers. At the same time arises apparently accidental, bizzare, three dimensional images”

Drawings in brass, copper and fine silver.

Drawing in charcoal.

I have been dipping into texts on Wicca by D. J. Conway, engaging with work by Linda Stupart, wanting to read Angela Carter, looking again at paintings by Dino Vals whom I admire, studying works by Lanelle W Keyes, Ingeborg Vandamme, Dorothea Pruhl and Doris Betz.

I’m still defining what kind of knots I am entangled with; mine, those connected with magic, the knots that we create within ourselves through tension and emotional reaction, all three perhaps. There are questions to be answerd here about how knots are formed, what effect do they have on the material and what happens when the energy used in tying/creating the knot is released.
