Meeting Iris was fabulous. The masterclass weekend was exhausting, by Sunday I had been working for 6 days straight in the same building not having much contact with the non-jewellery world. I was jewellery-ed out.

During those eternal sessions with Iris I carefully observed her teaching methods, I now have a profound admiration towards this powerhouse of a woman, her listening capacity, her endearing ability to offer advice, from experience, from knowledge.

She paired me up, despite my choices for mentor, with Monika Brugger, and I asked her why? She said I’d like her, that we would get along well, that she was a powerful artist dealing with important issues through jewellery and I believed her.

Monika has been answering my emails, she’s even already mentioned she wants me to go visit in France! but right now she’s very busy with her upcoming exhibition during Munich Jewellery Week “Heimat ou les ritournelles de Monika Brugger” at the French embassy. We will catch up later when there’s more time.

The MJW 2020 online guide entry for her exhibition, Laurence Verdier asks her a set of questions and below, I have recorded my answer after her’s just for fun.

Questionary from Laurence Verdier for Monika Brugger, answered also by Me.
If only one word in the French language remained, what would it be?

Me: Merde
